tai`tai (tai tai)
n.
1. A term originally used in Chinese circles for supreme wife, where a man is wealthy enough to have several “wives”, but is no longer strictly interpreted.
2. A privileged lady of means.
3. To qualify as a tai tai, one has to have lots of leisure time, lots of money to spend and lots of gossip to exchange.
I don’t exactly qualify, but these past few days spent lolling about in Singapore has made me miss the work at the house. And Jay of course!
Lolling is extremely boring by oneself.
However, I’ve discovered that there are many random lolling people about in Singapore (If you haven’t noticed, “lolling” is the word of the day here.)
It’s been fun observing the tai tai’s of Singapore converge in Orchard Road in their little high-heeled designer cliques to chatter aimlessly.
Fashion police alert: How does one wake up in the morning and decide to put on an outfit made up of logos? How does that same person then decide that a purse of that said logo should be used to complete the outfit?
Money buys taste? I think not.
